The Senate has confirmed Professor Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The Red Chamber confirmed Amupitan after a voice vote conducted by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and after undergoing screening and answering questions posed by the lawmakers.
Amupitan had earlier arrived at the National Assembly complex, exchanged pleasantries with Senators.
Professor Joash Amupitan stated he would introduce a voter education course to help tackle voter apathy, especially among the youth.
Speaking during his screening on the floor of the Senate, he stated the initiative could include an App that can be downloaded on mobile to help drive voter engagement and tackle voter apathy.
