Peter Obi, who flew the flag of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, has formally moved to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a party now central to a growing opposition coalition.
The former Anambra State governor made the announcement on Wednesday, December 31, during a gathering in Enugu, confirming that his decision is part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the event, Obi said the move was driven by a desire to rebuild and reposition Nigeria, stressing that the coming year would mark the beginning of a renewed national journey.
According to him, the coalition is committed to protecting the integrity of future elections and will oppose any form of malpractice through lawful and democratic means in 2027.
Obi also called on opposition figures across the country to set aside differences and work together as one united front, urging them to rally under the leadership of former Senate President David Mark to achieve what he described as a national rescue mission.
The defection is expected to reshape opposition politics as alliances begin to take clearer form ahead of the next electoral cycle.
