Open AI ChatGPT Parental Guidance Initiative: All You Need to Know

Open AI ChatGPT Parental Guidance

Open AI has announced a parental guidance initiative for ChatGPT to protect teenagers whom it says are among the first “AI natives,” growing up with these tools as part of daily life from the dangers of AI.

Open AI ChatGPT Parental Controls

Under OpenAI’s parental control introduced earlier this year, parents will be able to:

  • Link their account with their teen’s account (minimum age of 13) through a simple email invitation.
  • Control how ChatGPT responds to their teen with age-appropriate model behavior rules, which are on by default.
  • Manage which features to disable, including memory and chat history.
  • Receive notifications when the system detects their teen is in a moment of acute distress. Expert input will guide this feature to support trust between parents and teens.

These controls which adds to features that have been rolled out for all users including in-app reminders during long sessions to encourage breaks is expected to take effect in October.

Open AI notes the ultimate goal is to make ChatGPT as helpful as possible for parents and teenagers starting with the trial of the new initiative over the coming 120 days.
