The Empowering the Teachers (ETT) program, a teaching-focused fellowship offered by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in collaboration with NNPC Ltd and TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited, is now open for applications for the Spring & Fall 2026 cohorts.

About the Fellowship:
The ETT program enables Nigerian lecturers in the faculties of science and engineering to spend a semester at MIT, where they will receive instruction in their disciplines, work under the guidance of MIT faculty, and develop innovative teaching curricula. The goal is to empower these educators to return home and positively transform higher education in Nigeria.
This initiative supports national capacity building and the provision of quality education through public-private partnerships. Selected fellows will gain valuable international exposure while preparing to drive impactful changes at their home universities.
Eligibility Criteria:
ETT welcomes applications from qualified faculty who are:
- Interested in developing new curriculum and teaching methods and who see themselves as change agents.
- Faculty members holding a PhD and teaching in departments related to:
- Computer or Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Petroleum Engineering
- Geophysics
- Geology
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
…at universities in Nigeria.
- Currently holding a Lecturer One or higher rank.
- Committed to returning to their home university in Nigeria to share and apply what they’ve learned for a minimum of three years after completing the fellowship.
Note: Only applicants who have completed their PhD at the time of applying are eligible.
Interview & Selection Process:
- Interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place in Lagos by end of July 2025.
- Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted for interviews, which will be conducted physically.
