The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has been transferred from the detention facility of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja to a correctional centre in Sokoto State following his sentencing.
His lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, confirmed the transfer, disclosing that Kanu is no longer in DSS custody but has been moved to a Sokoto prison where he is to begin serving his sentence.
Kanu’s transfer comes a day after Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted him on terrorism-related charges and reportedly handed down a life sentence. The judgment marks a major turning point in the long-running legal and political saga surrounding the IPOB leader, who has faced multiple charges and detentions over the years.
