The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has issued a public warning alerting Nigerians to the activities of fraudsters who are exploiting job seekers with fake recruitment schemes and forged employment letters purportedly issued by the Authority.
In a public notice signed by George Ene-Ita, Director of Public Affairs, the regulator said unscrupulous individuals and syndicates are deceiving young, economically vulnerable and unsuspecting Nigerians into paying large sums of money for non-existent employment opportunities.
According to the NMDPRA, the fraudsters typically issue bogus “Letters of Employment” and make empty promises of placement into the Authority, even though no recruitment exercise is currently underway.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the NMDPRA is not conducting any recruitment exercise at this time, nor is the Authority undertaking any form of employment into its services at any level,” the statement said.
The regulator stressed that any legitimate recruitment process would be conducted strictly in line with extant Nigerian Public Service rules and would be formally announced through verified and official channels.
Growing recruitment fraud risk
The warning comes amid a broader rise in recruitment-related scams across Nigeria, where fraudsters increasingly impersonate government agencies and regulators to defraud job seekers. Energy sector institutions, in particular, have become targets due to their perceived prestige and the intense demand for public-sector employment.
NMDPRA said these fraudulent activities are not only aimed at defrauding Nigerians but also at damaging the Authority’s reputation.
How to verify authentic NMDPRA information
The Authority urged the public to disregard all recruitment claims made outside its official communication channels and advised Nigerians to rely only on verified sources for information relating to its activities.
For accurate and up-to-date information, NMDPRA directed the public to its official website and verified social media platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
