The Federal High Court of Nigeria will begin its 2025 annual vacation on Monday, July 28, as confirmed by Chief Judge Justice John Terhemba Tsoho.
This break is in line with Order 46, Rule 4 (d) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2019 and will last until Tuesday, September 16, 2025, with full court sittings resuming on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
According to an official circular released in Abuja and signed by the Court’s Director of Information, Dr Catherine Oby Christopher, the vacation is a routine judicial break aimed at allowing judges rest and preparation for the upcoming legal year.
While regular proceedings will be suspended, the court’s Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt divisions will remain operational for cases of extreme urgency only.
In Abuja, Justices Emeka Nwite and Mohammed Liman have been assigned as vacation judges. The Lagos division will be overseen by Justices Isaac Dehinde Dipeolu and Musa Kakaki, while Justices P. M. Ayua and A. T Mohammed will sit in Port Harcourt. Litigants with urgent matters are advised to approach the nearest of these three divisions during the period.
The Chief Judge expressed hope that his “brother judges” enjoy a refreshing and productive vacation, as the judiciary prepares to re-enter full session in mid-September.
