The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of the 2026 electronic registration and payment process for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for both public and private junior secondary schools across the state.
The exercise, coordinated by the Lagos State Examinations Board, will run from Monday, January 26 to Friday, March 27, 2026, and is designed to deliver a seamless, technology-driven registration process. The initiative eliminates physical contact between school owners and the board while enhancing transparency, efficiency and accountability in the conduct of the examination.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the state government and published on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday.

“The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Examinations Board, has announced the commencement of Year 2026 e-Registration and Payment of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). The exercise is scheduled to begin on Monday, 26th January 2026 and end on Friday, 27th March 2026,” the statement read.
Explaining the policy direction behind the exercise, the government said the move aligns with its broader objective of leveraging technology to streamline examination processes and eliminate the need for physical presence at the board’s offices.
How E-Registration Would Work
Speaking on the development, the Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Adebayo Orunsolu, stated that schools are required to use the newly issued School Code throughout the registration process.
He explained that public junior secondary schools are to download the Offline Data Capturing Application from bece.examsboard.lagosstate.gov.ng to complete their registration.
According to him, approved private junior secondary schools, schools operating with special permission and continuing education centres are to access the board’s portal at pay.examsboard.com.ng to complete payment, registration and generate their login credentials.
Orunsolu added that approved private junior secondary schools and approved public continuing education centres will pay a registration fee of ₦10,000 per candidate, while junior secondary schools operating with special permission and private continuing education centres will pay ₦15,000 per candidate.
He further advised schools presenting candidates with special needs, including visual impairments or albinism, to notify the board in writing ahead of time to enable adequate preparations before the commencement of the examination.
The registrar warned that late registration may attract penalties, noting that any additional information required will be communicated to schools through their respective zonal officers.
