Kwara Church Attack: Gov. Abdulrazaq Urges Deployment of More Security Operatives to State

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has requested urgent security deployment to the Ekiti Local Government Area, especially the Eruku axis, to curb the recent wave of attacks in the area.

This was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Wednesday in Ilorin.

The governor also called for additional security operatives to support the existing security architecture in the area and requested that the new measures be activated immediately.

“We condemn the unconscionable attack. We sympathise with the people of Eruku and environs, especially the families and the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), directly impacted by the attack on Tuesday,” the statement said.

The governor added that the state government would continue to support security agencies to tackle challenges and ensure the safety of lives and properties across the state.

Church Attack

Terrorists on Tuesday stormed a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku town, under Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State during service, killing three worshippers and abducting several others, including the pastor.

This was the latest in a series of coordinated attack by Gunmen in the state in recent months. In June, unidentified Islamist militants attacked the Oreke-Okeigbo marble mining site at Oreke-Oke, Ifelodun LGA killing 2 mobile police officers killed and abducting two workers.

In August, the Babanla police station in Ifelodun LGA was attacked with 5 people killed, including a police inspector (Adejuno Wasiu) then in  September 2025 , armed men/bandits stormed Oke-Ode town around 7 a.m., attacking a local government office and surrounding area.

At least 12 people were killed in the attack, including the local traditional ruler and several members of a forest guard/vigilante unit with several others wounded.
