Cathy Ying Zhang, wife of Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma, has purchased a historic townhouse in London’s prestigious Belgravia district for £19.5 million.
The Grade II-listed property, once the Italian embassy in the 1920s, spans nearly 8,000 square feet and features six bedrooms, a private cinema, and an elevator.
Originally built for diplomatic use, it has since been restored into a luxury private home.
The deal ranks among London’s top residential sales of 2024, according to data from real estate firm LonRes.
Beauchamp Estates and Knight Frank, which handled the transaction, cited the property’s prime location and high security as key draws.
The acquisition adds to the Ma family’s growing international real estate portfolio.
Their holdings include luxury residences in Singapore, France, Hong Kong, and the United States.
The purchase further reflects the family’s ongoing strategy of investing in premium global assets.
Neither Alibaba nor the Jack Ma Foundation have commented on the London acquisition.
