INEC Postpones Voter Revalidation Exercise Till After 2027 Elections

INEC Press Release on Senator Natasha's Recall

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed its initially scheduled voter revalidation exercise till after the 2027 elections.

The electoral body announced this following a meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) on Friday

Planned Voter Revalidation Exercise

The voter revalidation exercise is a critical component of the Commission’s mandate to maintain a credible and up-to-date National Register of Voters.

It is designed to verify and review existing voter records, ensure the accuracy of personal data, eliminate duplicate and ineligible entries, and strengthen the overall integrity of the voter register.

The exercise also aims to provide an opportunity for registered voters to confirm their details and make necessary corrections where required.

2027 General Election Dates

The presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled to hold on Saturday, January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2027.

These dates were officially adjusted following changes to the Electoral Act, which allowed INEC to move the elections earlier than the initially proposed February–March timeline.

INEC had originally planned the presidential election for February 20, 2027, and governorship elections for March 6, 2027, but revised the schedule to avoid a clash with the Ramadan period and to comply with the updated legal framework.
