The Field Communications Rep shall have primary responsibility for supporting all activities designed to manage the reputation of the company within the operational areas in the Niger Delta. The position shall support strategic leadership and tactical execution for all the Corporate Communications activities of the company as required, such as townhalls, IEC materials by the Board of the Host Community Development Trust (HCDT) corporate events (workshops, conferences and exhibitions) etc. within the operational areas. The position shall support executive communication as well as developing and executing strategic communication process to employees for issues and crisis management. It shall also support development and implementation of the company’s overall communications policy and processes.

JOB SUMMARY

The Field Communications Rep shall have primary responsibility for supporting all activities designed to manage the reputation of the company within the operational areas in the Niger Delta. The position shall support strategic leadership and tactical execution for all the Corporate Communications activities of the company as required, such as townhalls, IEC materials by the Board of the Host Community Development Trust (HCDT) corporate events (workshops, conferences and exhibitions) etc. within the operational areas.

The position shall support executive communication as well as developing and executing strategic communication process to employees for issues and crisis management. It shall also support development and implementation of the company’s overall communications policy and processes.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Key Responsibilities – Field Communications Representative

  1. Community Media Support: Assist in maintaining relationships with local/regional media operatives by facilitating accurate and timely dissemination of company updates and field activities.
  2. Storytelling: Tell stories of Company’s achievements in Production operations, Nigerian Content, HSE, Drilling and other critical areas using multi-media means- photography, video, infographics and others.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement Assistance: Support collaboration efforts with community leaders, local government officials, and other stakeholders by covering meetings and reporting then in story forms.
  4. Crisis Communication Execution: Implement crisis communication protocols as directed, ensuring prompt delivery of approved messages to relevant community and media contacts.
  5. Content Development and Distribution: Draft and circulate culturally appropriate communication materials such as flyers, bulletins, and social media posts under the guidance of senior communications operatives.
  6. Capacity Building Support: Assist in organizing training sessions and workshops for HCDT Board members and other stakeholders to enhance their understanding of developmental communication.
  7. Event Coordination: Help plan and execute community engagement events including town halls, sensitization programmes, and stakeholder briefings, ensuring logistical readiness and documentation in story form.
  8. Feedback Collection and Reporting: Maintain feedback channels (e.g., suggestion boxes, WhatsApp groups, surveys) and compile community insights for review and action by the Communications Manager.
  9. Compliance Monitoring: Ensure all communication activities adhere to company policies and regulatory standards and assist in preparing periodic reports for internal review.

QUALIFICATION

Key qualifications for this role are:

  1. Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in a communications, public relations, or stakeholder engagement role, preferably within the energy, extractive, or development sectors.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Humanities, or a related field from a recognized university.
  3. Demonstrated ability to support community engagement, media relations, and internal communications activities.
  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear and culturally sensitive messages.
  5. Good organizational and coordination skills, with experience managing logistics for events, meetings, or outreach programmes.
  6. Familiarity with Nigerian cultural dynamics, especially in host communities, and ability to communicate effectively across diverse groups.
  7. Basic understanding of crisis communication protocols and ability to follow established plans during sensitive situations.
  8. Proficiency in using digital tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, WhatsApp, Canva, social media platforms) for communication and reporting.
  9. Proficiency in using communications tools (e.g., video/still camera or phone) for communication and reporting.
  10. Ability to work collaboratively within a team and take initiative when required.

Willingness to travel to field locations and engage directly with community stakeholders.
