Nigeria’s newly appointed Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, officially resumed duties on Friday at the Ministry of Defence headquarters, popularly known as Ship House, in Abuja.
Gen. Musa, who previously served as the Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 to 2025, was appointed earlier in the week by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the resignation of former defence minister Muhammed Badaru.
His nomination received swift approval from the Senate on Thursday.
Arriving at the ministry around 11:10 a.m., the retired general observed military protocols by inspecting the quarter guard before being received by senior officers and heads of security agencies.
His entry was marked by brief interactions with service chiefs and senior ministry officials.
Musa proceeded to a closed-door meeting with the service chiefs and directors of the ministry, where discussions are expected to center on ongoing defence operations and national security priorities.
His appointment has drawn widespread commendation from stakeholders who believe his experience and leadership style as former defence chief will enhance coordination among the armed forces and strengthen the country’s overall security architecture.
The new minister is expected to outline his immediate agenda after consultations with the military high command.
