Nigeria’s stock market posted modest gains on October 8, 2025, with the All-Share Index rising 0.5% to close at 145,719.09 points. This uptick pushed market capitalization to N92.49 trillion, marking a N459.43 billion increase from the prior session.

Year-to-date, the index has surged 41.58% from its starting point of 102,926.40, reflecting robust investor confidence despite economic headwinds.

Market cap has similarly expanded by 47.36% since the beginning of the year, underscoring sustained capital inflows into equities.

Trading volume climbed 3.6% to 525.73 million shares, indicating heightened participation compared to the previous day’s 507.41 million.

However, the value of trades plummeted 44% to N13.61 billion, suggesting a shift toward lower-priced deals amid selective buying.

The number of deals executed dropped 16.6% to 25,597, pointing to more consolidated transactions.

This dynamics highlight a market where investors are cautious, focusing on volume over high-value bets.

In the day’s session, banking heavyweights dominated the top trades by value and volume, suggesting that investors are increasing positions in banking stocks.

GT HOLDCO led the value chart with N1.7 billion worth of its shares traded during the day, Lafarge followed with N1.4 billion and Aradel holdings (N1.3 billion), Zenith Bank (N1.28 billion) and First Holdco (N1.1 billion) completed the top 5 trade value chart.

In terms of volume, consolidated hallmark led with 83 million shares traded during the day, followed by First Holdco at 36 million shares and then GTCO (19 million), Fidelity Bank (18.6 million), and Zenith Bank (18.5 million) completed the top 5 trade volume chart.
