Ekiti State Bans School Graduation Ceremonies to Ease Parents’ Financial Burden

Ekiti State Bans School Graduation Ceremonies

The Ekiti State Government has banned graduation ceremonies for pupils in kindergarten, nursery, primary, and secondary schools, effective from the 2025/2026 academic session.

According to a circular issued in Ado-Ekiti by the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mike Omolayo, the move applies to both public and private schools.

The government explained that the ban aims to reduce undue financial pressure on parents and curb excesses associated with elaborate school celebrations.

Authorities emphasized that the decision was necessary to realign focus on academics rather than costly social activities.

The circular also highlighted adjustments to textbook review schedules across schools in the state. Primary schools will maintain a once-in-six-years review cycle, while secondary schools will now operate on a once-in-four-years cycle, instead of three.

Parents were further encouraged to allow siblings to reuse textbooks as long as they remain in good condition.

The state insisted these measures would foster affordability, fairness, and sustainability in Ekiti’s education system.
