President Bola Tinubu has dismissed concerns about the growing influence of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) party and the emerging ADC coalition in Nigeria, stressing that his administration remains firmly focused on delivering on its economic and developmental agenda.
Speaking to journalists in Kano on Tuesday, Senior Special Assistant to the President, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, said the formation of the ADC and its coalition with prominent opposition leaders is part of Nigeria’s democratic process, but not a threat to Tinubu’s leadership.
“President Tinubu is undeterred by the formation of the ADC coalition. His priority is the economy, security, and the welfare of Nigerians. He is not distracted by political realignments,” Abdulaziz declared.
Tinubu’s Economic Focus
Abdulaziz outlined that Tinubu’s government continues to prioritise growth and stability through key infrastructure projects and policies. These include the completed Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, the Lagos–Calabar and Sokoto–Lagos road networks, and the ongoing Maiduguri rail line project.
“Tinubu is implementing people-focused policies aimed at enhancing welfare across the country. His vision is centred on unity, prosperity, and sustainable development that cuts across political lines,” he added.
The ADC Party and Opposition Realignment
The ADC party, founded in 2016, has recently reorganised itself into a formidable opposition bloc. With the backing of a coalition that includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Senate President David Mark, the ADC coalition in Nigeria is positioning itself to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Despite this opposition strategy, Abdulaziz stressed that Tinubu remains focused on governing for all Nigerians. “The president is engaging political leaders, traditional rulers, and civil society to build consensus and a stronger nation. Governance, not party politics, is his priority,” he said.
Presidency Confident in Tinubu’s Leadership
The aide reaffirmed confidence that Tinubu’s leadership will continue to steer Nigeria toward progress. “The president’s focus is on achieving tangible results that improve citizens’ lives. The ADC coalition may be active in Nigeria’s politics, but Tinubu’s priority remains the economy and national development,” Abdulaziz concluded.
