This disruption impacts millions of YouTube TV subscribers, particularly sports fans who depend on ESPN and ABC for live events.
The dispute centers on payment terms. Disney is pushing for increased fees to compensate for the high production costs of its programming, especially ESPN’s extensive sports coverage.
A company representative stated that partners should compensate fairly for the premium content provided, highlighting upcoming events like NFL games, NBA matchups, and college football featuring top-ranked teams.
YouTube TV, in response, argued that Disney’s proposed rates would force higher subscription prices for users and reduce options.
The service emphasized its efforts to negotiate in good faith and apologized to customers for the inconvenience, noting that the removal favors competitors like Hulu + Live TV and Fubo.
Both sides confirmed ongoing discussions but provided no timeline for resolution. YouTube TV users received advance warnings about the potential outage over the past week.
