DHL Global Forwarding has named Egidio Monteiro as its new Chief Executive Officer for Sub-Saharan Africa, excluding South Africa, effective immediately. Monteiro will continue serving as Head of Industrial Projects for Sub-Saharan Africa, including South Africa, reporting directly to Amadou Diallo, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding Middle East and Africa (MEA).
This leadership change comes as Sub-Saharan Africa’s trade value jumped 10% year-on-year in the first half of 2025, reflecting a strong recovery in regional commerce. Trade volume across the region is projected to expand 4.3% annually through 2029, the second-fastest growth rate globally, signaling vast opportunities for logistics innovation and market expansion.
Monteiro brings over 20 years of experience within the DHL network, having begun his career as a courier with DHL Express Angola in 2001. His rise through various leadership roles has been marked by operational excellence and strategic foresight, including spearheading the launch of DHL Global Forwarding Angola in 2006 and later serving as CEO for Southern Africa.
Throughout his career, Monteiro played a key role in integrating Danzas and Exel Logistics into DHL, contributing to the company’s regional consolidation. His new mandate will focus on driving customer growth, trade facilitation, and logistics innovation across Sub-Saharan Africa’s fast-evolving markets.
Amadou Diallo praised Monteiro’s appointment, stating, “Egidio’s journey within DHL is a true reflection of our culture of growth and opportunity. His extensive experience and passion for developing teams and delivering customer-centric solutions will be vital as we continue to strengthen our presence in Sub-Saharan Africa.”
Diallo added that Sub-Saharan Africa remains a key growth market, citing DHL Group’s recent €300 million investment aimed at accelerating trade and logistics infrastructure across the continent.
Monteiro expressed enthusiasm for his expanded role, saying, “I am honoured to take on this expanded role and continue working with our talented teams across Sub-Saharan Africa. The region holds immense potential, and I’m excited to drive innovative solutions that support our customers’ growth while contributing to the continent’s economic development.”
DHL emphasized its commitment to leveraging global expertise and local partnerships to deliver reliable, sustainable logistics solutions that enhance connectivity and foster economic growth. The company’s focus on innovation positions it to help Sub-Saharan Africa unlock its full trade potential in the coming years.
