The average price to refill a 5kg gas cylinder fell 0.96% month-on-month to N8,243.79 in July 2025 from N8,323.95 in June, the NBS reported.
These figures in the NBS Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) Price Watch for July signal a modest monthly easing in refill costs.
Year-on-year, the 5kg refill price jumped 37.98% from N5,974.55 in July 2024, highlighting sharp annual pressure on household energy costs.
Meanwhile, the average refill for a 12.5kg cylinder fell 1.91% month-on-month to N20,609.48 in July 2025 from N21,010.56 in June, but remained 44.51% higher year-on-year from N14,261.57.
Regional prices
Adamawa recorded the highest average retail price for refilling a 5kg cylinder at N9,011.36, followed closely by Rivers at N9,005.00 and Taraba at N8,945.43.
At the other end, Yobe posted the lowest price at N7,612.00, with Niger and Nasarawa at N7,662.00 and N8,000.25, respectively.
Zone analysis shows the South-South had the highest average 5kg refill price at N8,511.26, followed by the South-East at N8,321.16.
The South-West recorded the lowest regional average for the 5kg cylinder at N8,073.92.
Adamawa also topped the list for 12.5kg refills at N22,528.39, with Rivers at N22,512.49 and Taraba at N22,363.57 rounding out the priciest trio.
Yobe recorded the lowest 12.5kg price at N19,030.00, followed by Niger at N19,154.99 and Nasarawa at N20,000.62.
Regionally, the South-South registered the highest average 12.5kg refill price at N21,278.14, with the South-East at N20,802.89.
The South-West again showed the lowest regional average for 12.5kg cylinders at N20,184.79.
June’s Price Watch
By contrast, June 2025 saw the average retail price for refilling a 5kg cylinder rise 1.92% month-on-month to N8,323.95 from N8,167.43 in May, representing a 19.49% year-on-year increase from N6,966.03 in June 2024.
Delta recorded the highest June 5kg price at N9,243.38, while Oyo registered the lowest at N7,100.00.
The 12.5kg cylinder averaged N21,010.56 in June after a 1.46% month-on-month rise from N20,709.11 in May, representing a 33.52% year-on-year increase from N15,736.27 in June 2024, with Delta, Cross River, and Rivers priciest and Yobe, Niger, and Jigawa cheapest.
NBS noted headline inflation eased to 21.88% in July 2025 from 22.22% the previous month, while food inflation stood at 22.74% year-on-year, underscoring the broader inflationary backdrop for cooking gas costs across Nigeria, and remains elevated.
