Radha Stirling, chief executive of the advocacy group Detained in Dubai, said Fakana’s imprisonment had caused him lasting emotional trauma. “It’s heartbreaking that of all of 2025, he was only free for the three months from July 3 to October 3,” she said.

Stirling added that Fakana’s case serves as a reminder of how “unnecessary imprisonment robs people of precious time,” emphasizing that “every day of freedom matters.”
