Once again, Bassey’s composure stood out. He led the back line, organized those around him, and dealt confidently with crosses, through balls, and late runs into the box.
Even in extra time, when spaces began to open and legs grew heavy, Bassey maintained his intensity, making key clearances and interceptions to keep the score level at 0–0.

The match was ultimately decided from the spot, where Nigeria converted twice but fell short as Morocco showed greater accuracy.
Penalties Achraf Hakimi and Youssef En-Nesyri, were decisive.
While the shootout will dominate the headlines, Nigeria’s exit should not overshadow the defensive resilience that carried them through the tournament—and Bassey’s role in particular.
