Tanzania’s national carrier Air Tanzania, the national carrier of the Republic of Tanzania, has begun operating flights from its Dar es Salaam hub at Julius Nyerere International Airport to Lagos, Nigeria. The airline will run three weekly flights on the route. This strengthens aviation links between the two countries.
To support the new service, Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) Plc has been contracted to provide ground handling operations at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport. SAHCO’s services will cover passenger and baggage handling. Additionally, they will manage ramp operations and cargo management. They will also provide warehousing and other aviation support.
Commenting on the partnership, SAHCO’s Managing Director/CEO, Adenike Aboderin, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Air Tanzania to Lagos and honoured they have chosen SAHCO as their trusted ground handling partner. This contract is a testament to our team’s expertise, state-of-the-art equipment, and unwavering dedication to operational excellence and safety. We are fully prepared to support Air Tanzania’s new service. Our aim is to ensure a seamless and efficient experience for their passengers and cargo.”

SAHCO remains the only ground handling company present at all commercially operated airports in Nigeria. This factor has helped it build strong relationships with both new and existing airlines. The company has also invested heavily in modern ground support equipment (GSE) that operates on alternative power sources. This ensures zero carbon emissions and is rugged enough for Nigerian airport terrain. These efforts underscore its commitment to efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The development follows SAHCO’s recent win of a ground handling contract with Ethiopian Airlines, which operates daily flights between Addis Ababa and Lagos. The new agreements highlight SAHCO’s growing profile as a leading provider of aviation support services in Nigeria.
