Morocco booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after grinding out a 1–0 victory against Tanzania in a tightly contested encounter on Sunday night.
The hosts dominated possession for long spells but found it difficult to break down a disciplined Tanzanian side in the first half.
An early effort from Ismael Hamad was ruled out following a VAR review, while both teams went into the break deadlocked at 0–0 despite several midfield battles and physical exchanges.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 64th minute when Brahim Díaz found the back of the net, finishing off a well-worked move involving Achraf Hakimi to send the home crowd into celebration.
The goal proved decisive in a match where clear-cut chances were at a premium.
Tanzania attempted to respond, with Simba SC striker Ally Samatta leading the charge, but Morocco’s defense held firm under late pressure.
The hosts managed the closing stages well, despite a flurry of substitutions and yellow cards as tensions rose.
At the final whistle, Morocco secured a vital 1–0 win, confirming their progression to the AFCON quarter-finals and keeping their title ambitions firmly on track, while Tanzania’s tournament hopes came to an end.
