OPay has explained how its customers can check their eligibility and access the Federal Government’s monthly N50,000 cash relief programme for vulnerable Nigerians under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI).

The digital financial services provider said eligible customers would receive a pop-up notification on their OPay app homepage, which they must click to proceed with the next steps.

In a post on its X handle on Tuesday, the company clarified that customers who cannot see the notification on their apps are not eligible for the intervention, stressing that it does not determine beneficiaries’ eligibility.

OPay stated, “The ₦50,000 monthly Federal Government cash support is available only to eligible citizens. Eligible customers will see a pop-up notification on their OPay app homepage. Kindly click on the pop-up to proceed with the next steps.

“Kindly note that customers who are unable to see the feature on the app are not eligible for it. Please note that we do not determine your eligibility. Kindly contact NERSI at 07000222222 for assistance.”

The company also warned customers against fraudsters, stressing that it would never request their personal identification numbers (PINs) or one-time passwords (OTPs) to process payments under the intervention.

Customers can also check their eligibility through OPay’s official USSD code, *95520#, or its mobile application.

How to Check Eligibility Through OPay and Other Financial Service Providers

Customers of participating financial service providers can use the following USSD codes to check their eligibility for the Federal Government’s N50,000 monthly cash relief:

  • ALAT by Wema: *94523#

  • MoMo PSB: *6710#

  • NairaGram: *72600#

OPay’s clarification followed a post by an X user who shared information about the intervention and listed USSD codes for customers of participating financial service providers.

How the Federal Government’s N50,000 Cash Relief Works

The Federal Government recently commenced disbursement under NERSI, a presidential initiative designed to provide financial assistance to vulnerable households amid rising living costs.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, announced the commencement of the programme in an October 30 statement, explaining that eligible beneficiaries would receive N50,000 monthly to help meet essential needs.

According to the minister, the programme will be reviewed regularly, while the ministry is partnering with licensed digital financial service providers to ensure secure and transparent disbursements.

Beneficiaries will receive an SMS requesting their consent before the money is paid directly into their bank accounts or mobile wallets.

Doro emphasised that Nigerians do not need to submit applications, pay fees or register through agents to access the intervention. He also warned against fraudsters and advised citizens not to share their PINs or Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs).

Those seeking clarification about the programme can contact the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.
