Shell has opened applications for an experienced professional to fill the position of Project Security Lead in Lagos, Nigeria.
The full-time role, under Shell’s Upstream business and Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) function, is aimed at professionals with experience in project security, risk management, planning and security operations.
Shell Project Security Lead Job: What the Role Involves
The successful candidate will support security risk management for Shell’s HI project and work closely with the Project Security Manager and other project leaders.
The role involves monitoring security threats, assessing risks and developing practical measures to reduce those risks while supporting the project’s cost, schedule and delivery objectives.
The Project Security Lead will also contribute to security activities across various stages of project development, including pre-FEED, FEED and project execution.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be expected to:
- Identify, assess and develop mitigation plans for project security risks.
- Integrate security requirements into engineering, logistics, execution and operational plans.
- Support security deliverables and documentation through Opportunity Realization Standards Decision Gates DG1 to DG5.
- Develop and review project security plans.
- Evaluate security technologies and industry best practices.
- Support security assurance activities and contractor security plans.
- Monitor physical security measures at project locations.
- Work with Security Operations Centre and Shell Companies in Nigeria operations to maintain situational awareness.
- Coordinate intelligence sharing with security coordinators, intelligence teams, contractors and logistics teams.
- Support emergency response, project movements and logistics planning.
- Conduct Level of Defense (LOD1) assurance activities.
- Support offshore security mitigation measures and security drills.
- Ensure compliance with Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR) requirements.
- Support pre-startup risk assessments.
- Act for the Project Security Manager when required.
Requirements for Shell Project Security Lead
Shell requires applicants to have at least a bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution. A relevant postgraduate qualification would be an advantage.
Candidates should demonstrate strong abilities in project management, analytics, planning, communication and professional writing, as well as the ability to collaborate across different teams.
Professional security certifications such as PFSO, PSP or CPP from ASIS, or an equivalent qualification, will be an advantage.
Applicants should also have knowledge of the Exploration and Production (E&P) business, particularly in the Niger Delta and Gulf of Guinea. Experience in energy, infrastructure or other regulated industries would be beneficial.
Shell is seeking candidates with at least four years of relevant experience, including a minimum of two years in project delivery roles within top-tier consulting firms or data-driven industry environments.
Good computer skills are required, including experience with data management, simple databases and activity planning tools. Candidates should also be comfortable using Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint, alongside digital collaboration and reporting platforms.
