SeaLearn is set to deliver exceptional maritime education through a blend of integrated learning, hands-on practical training, and strategic industry partnerships.
It offers globally recognised mandatory and advanced STCW ’78 courses as amended (International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watch-keeping for Seafarers), along with other industry-focused value-added courses fully compliant with regulatory standards.

Parallel to the short-term STCW mandatory and value-added training offerings, SeaLearn is set to offerlong-term courses that will award Diplomas, and bachelor’s certificates to course participants.

Role Definition: Support Instructor (Deck & Engine)

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Maritime Instructor to join our faculty at Sealearn Academy. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instructional and vocational training in maritime subjects, preparing trainees for successful careers at sea and in related maritime industries.

The instructor shall conduct theoretical and practical classes and ensure that training complies with various national and international standards such as STCW and IMO regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver vocational courses in nautical science, marine engineering, maritime safety, seamanship, cargo work, repair and maintenance.
  • Fabricate props and mockups for delivery of practical training and skill development
  • Conduct classroom instruction, practical training, and assessments.
  • Provide skill enhancement support and career guidance to trainees and students.
  • Maintain training records and ensure documentation is complete and compliant.
  • Collaborate with instructors and staff to improve curriculum and student outcomes.
  • Stay current with industry trends, maritime regulations, and educational best practices.
  • Participate in meetings, professional development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure classroom, workshop, practical workspace and laboratory have safety protocols in place and rigorously followed.

Core Competencies & Skills

  •  Teaching experience at a maritime academy or similar institution.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Located near Apapa, Lagos

Qualifications & Required Knowledge

  • Valid STCW certifications for Able Seafarer Deck / Engine and oil / chemical tanker endorsements.
  • Minimum 7 years of sea-going experience as a Bosun / Able Seafarer / Motorman/ Fitter (deck or engine) on board an ocean-going ship.
  • Holds certificate of an Administration approved Train the Trainer course.
  • Familiarity with IMO Model Course requirements and other industry standards
  • Proficient in the use of machinery, equipment and tools and other maritime education technologies.
