Tony Elumelu Appointed to Seplat Energy Board as Non-Executive Director

Seplat Energy Plc has announced the appointment of Mr. Tony Elumelu, CFR, as a Non-Executive Director on its Board, effective January 22, 2026. This follows the resignation of Olivier Cleret De Langavant as a Non-Executive Director

In a statement, the company described Elumelu as a distinguished African investor and philanthropist, globally recognised as one of the leading voices shaping Africa’s economic transformation agenda.

Elumelu is the Founder and Chairman of Heirs Holdings, a diversified investment group with interests spanning key sectors of the African economy, including energy, power, banking, insurance, technology, real estate, hospitality, and healthcare.

He also serves as Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group, Heirs Energies, and Transcorp Group, whose subsidiaries include Transcorp Power and Transcorp Hotels Plc, one of Nigeria’s leading hospitality brands.

In 2010, Elumelu established the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), a pan-African philanthropy focused on empowering entrepreneurs across all 54 African countries. Through its entrepreneurship programmes, the foundation has supported thousands of African startups and small businesses.

His contributions to business and development have earned him wide international recognition, including being named among TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2020. In 2022, he was conferred with the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR).

Elumelu also serves on several global advisory boards, including UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited Global Leadership Council and the International Monetary Fund’s Advisory Council on Entrepreneurship and Growth.
