Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi has warned that anyone who tries to rig the 2027 elections would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
Peter Obi, who is one of the leading candidates to clinch the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) stated this during a stakeholder engagement over the weekend.
“Unlike in the past, in 2027 our votes MUST count, and all those who are there not to count the votes will be counted among those destroying Nigeria. I encourage everyone to remain at the polling units after voting to count and witness the counting and transmission of results.
“Those who refuse to allow the vote count will be made to count the full weight of the law against rigging. Let me reiterate: if you do not count our votes, we will count you among those who destroy our democracy, thereby destroying our future, and you must answer to the law.”
Build up to the 2027 elections
The race towards the 2027 general elections has begun heating up in recent days following the unveiling of the election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
There has also been heated deliberations on the use of electronic transmission of results during the elections both on the floor of the national assembly and by the general public.
