This year’s competition focuses on groundbreaking solutions that leverage emerging technologies to solve real-world development challenges relevant to Nigeria.
What the Prize Is About
Established in 2004, the Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation celebrates outstanding achievements that push the boundaries of knowledge and deliver practical, scalable solutions.
The award recognizes innovations that can significantly improve lives and contribute to sustainable development in Nigeria.
Who Can Apply
- Open to global applicants (Nigerians and non-Nigerians)
- Individuals, startups, researchers, and collaborative teams
- Applicants working in AI, ICT, or digital innovation fields
Note:
- Members of the prize’s advisory or judging bodies (and their families) are not eligible during and shortly after their tenure
- NLNG staff and their immediate families are also excluded during employment and for five years afterward
Key Requirements
Entries must clearly demonstrate:
- Integration of AI, ICT, or digital technologies
- Practical usability and operational clarity
- Evidence of real-world testing or deployment
- Measurable or well-defined societal impact
- Strong potential for scalability and sustainability
Both research-driven innovations and field-tested solutions are encouraged, especially those with proven impact.
What Kind of Projects Qualify
Submissions should be:
- Completed scientific work or a functional innovation
- Supported by proof of concept or tangible impact
- Focused on solving a clearly defined development problem
Only one entry per individual or team is allowed.
