The recent provision of free eye surgeries for 1,000 cataract patients in Borno State has drawn widespread commendation, positioning Governor Babagana Zulum as a beacon of people-centered leadership. This humanitarian initiative, supported by Senator Ali Ndume, has not only restored vision to those affected but has also offered renewed hope to many families.

Engineer Abdullahi Hashim, a prominent member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria and the Nigerian Society of Engineers, lauded the partnership between Governor Zulum and Senator Ndume. In a statement, Hashim described the initiative as a significant step toward alleviating the financial burden of healthcare on the state’s vulnerable population.

“The Government of Borno State, under the exemplary leadership of Professor Babagana Zulum, has demonstrated unwavering dedication to the welfare of its citizens through its humanitarian endeavours.

“In conjunction with Senator Ali Ndume, the government has exhibited a remarkable commitment to inclusive leadership, spearheading initiatives that cater to the needs of its people.

“One of such laudable efforts is the provision of free eye surgery for 1,000 individuals in Borno State, showcasing the government’s genuine empathy and concern for the well-being of its citizens.

“By shouldering the costs of the surgery, Zulum has lifted the financial burden on the 1,000 cataract patients, thereby giving them a clear sight and a new lease of life for a dynamic society,” Hashim remarked.

The initiative is part of a broader commitment by the Borno State Government to improve healthcare access and enhance the quality of life for its residents. By covering the costs of these surgeries, the government has offered patients a fresh start, underscoring its resolve to address pressing health challenges in the state.

Observers have noted that such programs are vital for fostering social development and rebuilding trust in governance, particularly in a region recovering from years of insecurity. Hashim emphasized that Governor Zulum’s leadership serves as a model of empathy and action, inspiring hope and solidarity across the state.
