The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has released the results of the 2025 Computer-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for Private Candidates, First Series. Conducted from January 29 to February 15, 2025, the examination involved 512 examiners who coordinated and marked the scripts. This announcement marks a significant milestone in WAEC’s ongoing efforts to deliver credible and efficient examination processes for private candidates across Nigeria.

Candidate Participation

A total of 9,439 candidates registered for the 2025 CB-WASSCE, reflecting a 12.86% increase in entries compared to the 2024 figures. Of these, 9,054 candidates sat the examination at 143 centers nationwide. The gender breakdown shows 4,384 males (48.42%) and 4,670 females (51.58%), indicating a slightly higher female participation rate. This uptick in candidacy underscores the growing interest in the computer-based WASSCE format among private candidates.

Performance Statistics

The performance data provides a detailed snapshot of candidate outcomes. Out of the 9,054 candidates who sat the exam, 3,388 (37.42%) achieved credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, with or without English Language and/or Mathematics. More specifically, 2,441 candidates (26.96%) obtained credit and above in at least five subjects, including both English Language and Mathematics. This group comprised 1,291 males (52.89%) and 1,150 females (47.11%).

Comparatively, the percentage of candidates achieving credit and above in five subjects, including English and Mathematics, was 23.99% in 2023 and 30.95% in 2024. This year’s figure of 26.96% reflects a marginal decline of 3.99%, signaling a slight dip in overall performance for this category.

Special Needs Candidates

WAEC demonstrated its commitment to inclusivity by accommodating 25 candidates with special needs. This included six visually challenged individuals, one candidate with impaired hearing, and six albinos. All were provided with adequate support during the examination, ensuring equal opportunities for success. This effort highlights WAEC’s dedication to addressing the unique requirements of all participants.

Results Processing and Withheld Results

Of the total candidates, 8,651 (95.55%) have had their results fully processed and released. However, 403 candidates (4.45%) still have some subjects pending due to errors attributable to them. WAEC has assured that concerted efforts are underway to resolve these issues swiftly, enabling the affected candidates to access their complete results soon.

Additionally, the results of 56 candidates (0.62%) have been withheld due to alleged examination malpractice. Affected candidates are directed to the WAEC Notice of Examination Malpractice Portal at https://waecinternational.org/complaints to make representations regarding these allegations. This measure reinforces WAEC’s strict stance against malpractice.

Accessing Results and Certificates

Candidates can verify their results by visiting www.waecdirect.org. Following confirmation, digital certificates are accessible on the WAEC platform at www.waec.org. This streamlined process ensures candidates can promptly obtain their credentials, enhancing convenience and accessibility.

In summary, the 2025 CB-WASSCE for Private Candidates reflects significant participation and a robust evaluation process, despite a slight dip in performance compared to the previous year. With detailed statistics, accommodations for special needs candidates, and a transparent approach to result processing, WAEC continues to uphold its reputation as a leading examination body in Nigeria. Candidates are encouraged to check their results and address any pending issues promptly.
