Onyinyechi Mark makes history at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, winning Nigeria’s first gold medal and setting a new world record.

The powerlifter from Umuahia, Abia State, has delivered a performance that earned her the top spot on the podium.

The athlete lifted an astounding 150 kilograms—more than two times her body weight of 61 kg.

She surpasses China’s Cui Jianjin, who secures the silver medal by lifting 140 kilograms.

This not only secured her the gold medal but also saw her smash her world record, setting a new benchmark in the sport of powerlifting.

Winning Nigeria’s first gold medal at the 2024 Paralympics, she has become a symbol of hope and inspiration for athletes across the nation.

Team Nigeria earns its third medal at the Paris Paralympics thanks to her victory.

Esther Nworgu won silver in the 41kg powerlifting event and Eniola Bolaji won Bronze in the badminton event earlier in the week.

Her achievement has been widely celebrated as a moment of national unity and joy.

This reflects the collective pride in her accomplishment.

Nigerians have shown overwhelming support on various platforms, expressing admiration and congratulations.

Her win and world record at the 2024 Paralympics represent an important moment in her career and the history of Nigerian sports.

Lucy Ejike will take the stage on Friday as she competes in the women’s up to 67kg category of para-powerlifting.
