Nigeria’s House of Representatives has strongly condemned a bill introduced by US lawmakers accusing the Nigerian government of “facilitating the mass murder of Christians.”
The chamber said the allegation is unfounded, insisting that there is no state-sponsored persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
During Wednesday’s plenary, lawmakers adopted a motion co-sponsored by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and 259 others to formally denounce the bill.
The resolution reflects growing concern in Abuja over what officials describe as misrepresentations of Nigeria’s complex security and religious landscape.
The House emphasized that Nigeria remains a multi-faith nation committed to constitutional freedom of religion.
It urged international partners to engage constructively rather than promote narratives that could inflame religious tensions.
