Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum was harrassed by a man who tried to kiss her on Tuesday while speaking with citizens in Mexico City’s historic downtown.
The man who appeared to be intoxicated could be seen in a video circulating online trying to lean in toward her and make physical contact before she calmly pushed his hands away, saying “Don’t worry.”
The president’s security detail was not visible in the clip, and her office has not commented on the incident.
The incident occurred amid growing concerns over political violence in Mexico, following the assassination of a mayor in Michoacán earlier in the week. Sheinbaum, who often engages closely with the public like her mentor Andrés Manuel López Obrador, had met with the slain mayor’s widow earlier that same day.
