The Kano State Government has announced the award of contracts worth over N40.8 billion for the construction of 17 township roads across various Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the Kano metropolis, including Gwale, Nasarawa, Kumbotso, Fagge, Kano Municipal, Tarauni, Dala, and Ungogo.
The state’s Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, disclosed this during a tour of completed and ongoing road projects with the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhassan Yahaya. Waiya emphasized that the contracts reflect Governor Abba Yusuf’s dedication to fulfilling his campaign promise of improving road infrastructure to enhance connectivity and quality of life for residents.
Among the key projects highlighted are the Tudun-Yola-Gwarzo Road and Dansudau Bypass, awarded at N1.896 billion, and the Jafar-Madobi road and underpass, valued at N1.323 billion.
Other significant contracts include the rehabilitation of Sabo Bakin Zuwo Road (N2.014 billion), Muhammad Buhari Road (N4.108 billion), Rijiyar Lemo Road (N494.367 million), Kwanar Durba – Fammar-Kunau Kure Road Erosion Control (N205.983 million), and Airport Road Rehabilitation (N5.956 billion).
Additionally, the state is investing N13.3 billion in the Rogo-Bari-Falgore-Mahangi roads in Rogo LGA and N6.9 billion for the Panda-Hamdullahi-Albasu-Salkwayan Dutse Roads in Albasu LGA. According to Waiya, these roads were prioritized due to their economic and social significance, aiming to improve transportation, facilitate business activities, and boost the local economy by easing the movement of goods from farms to markets.
“The government’s investment in infrastructure demonstrates its commitment to driving economic growth and improving the lives of residents,” Waiya stated.
NUJ President Alhassan Yahaya commended Governor Yusuf for his transformative efforts in the state capital, noting that the road projects would significantly enhance socioeconomic development. He also praised the state’s substantial investment in education, recognizing it as a critical foundation for Kano’s future.
The projects are expected to reduce traffic congestion, improve driving experiences, and create a more connected and economically vibrant Kano State.
