Eddie Murphy is back as Prince Akeem in Coming to America 2

Coming 2 America has started filming and we’re pretty excited, especially as we’ve seen Eddie Murphy in full kit as Prince Akeem in his glorious costumes. The Oscar winner was spotted holding his scripts on the set of the new movie, Coming to America 2, and was joined by Arsenio Hall – who is clearly bringing back some iconic characters as he was looking very aged after a full face of makeup. We have been dying for updates about production about this epic sequel and sequels aren’t often welcomed, especially when you believe that the original can’t be beaten. Eddie and Arsenio, who is bringing back Rev. Brown, are currently working in Georgia and it’s the first time we’ve seen pictures from the set.

Pictures on set of Coming to America 2

Arsenio played four different characters in the first movie and was referenced as Semmi, Morris, Extremely Ugly Girl and Reverend Brown. Does that mean four times the pay? Now, 30 years on, Arsenio will also be joined by stars including Tracy Morgan, Leslie Jones and Luenell. Morgan was also pictured on set and recently joined the cast of the hotly-anticipated sequel of the 1988 comedy movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Morgan will play a character called Reem, a hustler who is the brother of Jones’ character, who has a one-night stand with Murphy’s alter-ego Akeem. As well as Leslie, Wesley Snipes and Kiki Layne are among the new cast members.

The movie will be directed by Craig Brewer with Kevin Misher and Kenya Barris producing. Murphy recently said in a statement: ‘After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward. ‘We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on ‘Dolemite [Is My Name]’, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.’ It’s been reported that the new movie will show Prince Akeem getting ready to ascend to the throne and become King of the fictional country, Zamunda, when he then finds out that he fathered a son he didn’t know about in America. In order to honour his father’s dying wish, Akeem and Seemi must once again go in search of this son, in Queens and then turn the street-savvy New York native into the crown prince. It’s thought that the new movie is slated for release in December 2020.
