In a thrilling UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) quarterfinal match, FC Barcelona Femení recorded a comprehensive 10-2 aggregate victory over VfL Wolfsburg Women, advancing to the semifinals with a dominating performance over the two matches. The second leg, which Barcelona won 6-1, sealed a breathtaking display by the Spanish giants.
Barcelona overwhelmed the first leg by a 4-1 score at the Wolfsburg home stadium. Salma Paralluelo opened the scoring in the 20th minute and was followed by Paralluelo’s quick second after 10 minutes.
Caroline Graham Hansen added the third in the 62nd minute and Claudia Pina added the first-leg thrashing in the 77th minute. Wolfsburg’s sole response came in the 72nd minute from Lena Oberdorf, but that was scant consolation as Barcelona headed into the second leg in control.
The second leg at the Camp Nou continued Barcelona’s merciless pressure. Salma Paralluelo shone again, netting in the 10th and 20th minutes to complete her hat-trick in the tie. Esmee Brugts chipped in with a phenomenal strike in the 41st minute, while Claudia Pina netted her second of the tie in the 62nd minute. Pina was not done yet, netting again in the 77th minute to extend Barcelona’s advantage. Mapí León finished the scoring in the 90th minute with a good-taken goal, assisted by a precise cross. Wolfsburg’s sole response was from Lena Beerensteyn in the 72nd minute, but it did not spoil Barcelona’s celebration.
Star performers were Salma Paralluelo, whose finishing and work rate were always menacing, and Claudia Pina, who demonstrated her clinical accuracy with three hits across the two games. Mapí León was a rock at the back, assisting both with her defense and with her late goal, and Caroline Graham Hansen’s creativity in midfield was the key to unlocking Wolfsburg’s defense. For Wolfsburg, Lena Beerensteyn was flashes of brightness, but they could not match Barcelona’s tempo.
Barcelona now march into the semifinals with confidence, solidifying their reputation as one of the favourites to lift the UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy this season.
FC Barcelona Femení has entrenched their brand in the history of football by reaching the UEFA Women’s Champions League semifinals for the seventh year in a row, having begun this run of success during the 2018/19 season. This was an achievement featured in their March 27, 2025, tweet and represents their dominance of women’s football in Europe. Having qualified with a dominant 4-0 win over Wolfsburg in the quarterfinals, Barcelona is further solidifying their status as defending champions, having taken the title in the 2023/24 season. Such steady supremacy shows the strength of their tactics and depth in the squad, making them a force to reckon with in the competition.
In front, the semifinal draw presents an intriguing path for Barcelona. They will face the victor of the Manchester City vs. Chelsea quarterfinal, a game that would have them against Chelsea for the third year in succession in the semifinals. This potential meeting is full of meaning, as Barcelona already beat Chelsea in the 2023/24 season’s semifinals en route to their title. Barcelona’s run would be tested in the first semifinal leg, while the second semifinal leg en route to the May 24, 2025 final in Lisbon will inform them if they will continue their record-breaking stay and snatch a second Champions League crown.
