Wylfa to Host UK’s First Small Modular Reactor, Creating 3,000 Jobs in North Wales

In a landmark move for Britain’s clean energy ambitions, the UK government has announced that Wylfa, on the island of Anglesey, will become home to the nation’s first small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear power station. The project marks the most significant industrial investment in North Wales in a generation.

According to officials, the new SMR plant will support around 3,000 jobs during its construction and operation phases, revitalizing the local economy and reinforcing the UK’s commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions.

The Wylfa site, long regarded as one of the most suitable locations for nuclear development due to its existing infrastructure and skilled workforce, will host this next-generation nuclear technology designed to deliver safer, cleaner, and more efficient power than traditional reactors.
