World Trade Organization (WTO) Director General, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for stabilizing Nigeria’s economy. She stated this after a meeting with the president at the Aso Villa on Thursday.
Speaking on the President’s economic reforms, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala gave the president a pass mark stating “The President embarked on some reforms at the initial stage of his administration and now he’s told Nigerians that the economy is turning the corner.
” So we think that the President and his team, as we just exchanged with him, have worked hard to stabilize the economy and you cannot really improve an economy unless it’s stable.”
“We now need to grow the economy and we need to put in social safety nets so that people who are feeling the pinch of the reforms can also have some support to be able to weather the hardship.
“The next step is How do we build social safety nets to help Nigerians cushion the hardship they’re feeling? and then how do we grow the economy so we can create more jobs and put more money in people’s pockets? These are issues that we discussed with Mr. President.”
