The job is in the Office of the Senior Managing Director for Development Policy and Partnerships that leads on global knowledge strategy and innovation culture across the institution. Within this structure, the Department for Innovation is at the forefront—driving a human-centered approach to problem-solving, experimentation, and system-wide change.
In the role of Innovation Officer – Storytelling, the successful applicant will spearhead the development and delivery of impactful, emotionally resonant stories that demonstrate why innovation matters at the World Bank—and how it is changing lives across the globe.
The successful applicant wll lead campaigns that make innovation tangible to staff and stakeholders, ensuring it becomes embedded in the World Bank’s DNA. They would work at the intersection of strategy, communications, and creativity—using words, video, data, and design to connect people to purpose.
Develop a strategy for innovation storytelling that aligns with institutional goals and cultivates a culture of experimentation and learning.
Lead cross-platform campaigns (blogs, newsletters, videos, presentations, internal portals) that communicate the “why” and “how” of innovation at the World Bank.
Collaborate with teams across the institution, including corporate communications and senior leadership, to source stories and elevate the human element of policy and program innovation.
Manage communications channels, including internal community platforms and intranet pages, ensuring messages are timely, consistent, and inspiring.
Use data and feedback to measure the impact of storytelling efforts and continuously refine strategy.
Integrate the latest tools, including AI-enabled content creation and multimedia, into storytelling practices.
Support external engagement, helping shape how the World Bank communicates innovation success stories to the wider development and donor ecosystem.
Play a strategic role in embedding storytelling into broader innovation initiatives.
At least 5 years of experience designing and implementing storytelling campaigns, preferably in complex, global organizations.
An exceptional writer and editor with a sharp eye for narrative flow, tone, and visual language.
A content creator skilled in multiple formats—from social media posts to long-form articles and short films.
An innovation advocate who thrives in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, multicultural environment.
An effective collaborator with strong interpersonal and project management skills and a record of working with cross-functional teams.
A systems thinker who can see the big picture and translate abstract concepts into compelling, relatable content.
A digital-savvy communicator with familiarity in social media, video production, and design thinking (bonus if you have experience with tools like Canva, Figma, or Adobe Creative Suite).
Empathic and adaptable, with emotional intelligence, humility, and discretion.
Master’s (or PhD) in Communications, Journalism, Innovation, Public Policy, International Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
Proven experience managing end-to-end campaigns across multiple media.
Deep interest in development, policy, or public sector innovation.
Excellent command of English; other languages are a plus.
