Barcelona had a great start to the match thanks to who else but Lewandowski. The striker found the net twice in the first half; Pablo Torre set up the first goal for Lewandowski, who slotted it past Conde to secure his fifth goal of the season. He soon scored his second goal of the match, the sixth of the season. Yamal sent in a great ball which Eric Garcia was able to get on the end of, he pushed it into the path of Lewandowski, and the 36-year-old managed to find the back of the net with an overhead kick.
Villarreal fought back with a goal from Ayoze Perez from an excellent assist from Pepe. The scoreline read Villarreal 1-2 Barcelona going into the second half of the match. Barcelona then shifted gears and scored thrice more to seal the match for them. It was a great response from the Catalan side after their Champions League disappointing loss to Monaco in the middle of the week.
Pablo Torre scored the third goal for Barcelona. He hit a low shot from the outside of the box and it was enough to beat Conde. Barcelona were able to win a penalty in the 65′ minute when Yamal was brought down in the box. Lewandowski, looking for a hat-trick, missed out on the penalty when his low strike found the woodwork. Villarreal had a chance to come back into the game again when Thierno Barry scored after some great work. Only to be ruled out by the VAR.
Raphinha then entered the goal-scoring party for Barcelona. He got his first goal after a powerful strike took a deflection and found the bottom left corner. He scored again when Yamal picked out Raphinha’s run with a wonderful long ball and Raphinha made no mistake scoring his second of the game. Yamal might not have got his goal tonight but he got two assists and continues his promising form.
Barcelona played incredibly well against an in-form Villarreal team. They maintain their four-point lead over Real Madrid in the league table.
