The US Embassy in Nigeria has announced a transition to a new visa services provider, effective August 26, 2024. This change aims to enhance the visa application process by offering more streamlined and efficient services.

Over the years, the demand for US visas in Nigeria has grown substantially, making it one of the busiest US consular operations in Africa. To accommodate the increasing volume of applications and the need for improved customer service, the Embassy has decided to switch to a new provider.

This transition is part of a broader initiative to modernise and improve the efficiency of the visa application process. The new provider will manage all aspects of the visa process, from scheduling appointments to handling fee payments and customer service enquiries, according to the Embassy’s website.

Visa applicants will now access services through a newly designated website. The new system introduces several key features aimed at making the process more user-friendly:

  • Enhanced Online Portal: A more intuitive and user-friendly interface for managing visa applications.
  • Improved Customer Support: Better access to help and guidance throughout the application process.
  • Streamlined Fee Payments: Easier methods for paying visa application fees.
  • Better Appointment Management: Improved tools for scheduling and managing visa interview appointments.

For Nigerians planning to travel to the US, this transition promises a smoother and more reliable visa application process. The upgraded services are expected to address many of the frustrations that applicants have previously experienced, such as long wait times for appointments and delays in receiving support.

The US Embassy advises all applicants to visit the new website to update their information and ensure their applications are processed correctly.

Steps for Applicants

If you have a visa interview scheduled on or after August 26, 2024, you must use the new visa services provider. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Visit the New Website: Go to usvisaappt.com to access the new visa services. Create an account if you haven’t done so already.
  2. Update Your Information: Log in to the new portal and verify that all your personal and application details are correct.
  3. Pay Any Outstanding Fees: If you haven’t yet paid the visa application fee, you can do so directly through the new system.
  4. Schedule or Confirm Your Appointment: Use the new system to schedule your visa interview or confirm your existing appointment.
  5. Seek Assistance if Needed: Utilise the online chat feature for any questions or concerns about the new system.

The US Embassy and Consulate are committed to ensuring a seamless transition to the new visa services provider. Applicants are encouraged to stay informed of these changes and prepare accordingly to avoid disruptions in their visa application process.
