The US Embassy has issued a strong advisory against attempting to enter the United States illegally. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the embassy warned that individuals caught entering without proper authorization face detention. They may also face deportation and permanent ineligibility for US visas.
“Illegal entry into the United States will lead to detention, deportation, and permanent consequences for future visa eligibility,” the post read.
This warning comes just after the US government introduced new screening measures for student visa applicants. Starting immediately, all applicants for F-1 (academic), M-1 (vocational), and J-1 (exchange visitor) visas must make their social media profiles public. This is required for consular review. This includes platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn.
The new policy is part of an expanded vetting process aimed at strengthening national security. According to the US Department of State, the US is now placing greater emphasis on applicants’ online presence, affiliations, and public behavior. Last month, visa interviews were temporarily paused to implement these changes. They resumed on June 18, 2025, with the new rules in effect.
The embassy warned that attempting unauthorized entry is not only dangerous but has lifelong consequences, including financial loss and permanent visa bans. Aspiring students are urged to avoid shady agents and illegal channels, and instead pursue legitimate pathways such as the F-1 or J-1 visa.
