University of Arizona Faces $60 Million Federal Funding Loss

President Donald Trump has withdrawn nearly $60 million in federal research funding previously granted to the University of Arizona after terminating 64 grants issued to the university, effectively halting active projects.

Disciplines affected include science, engineering, health sciences, and public service. These cuts have affected the jobs and academic futures of faculty, graduate students, and research staff who rely on these funds.

Larger Statewide Education Funding Cuts

School districts risk losing nearly $120 million in federal education funds following a coordinated policy shift at the federal level, which has caused immediate, potentially long-term disruption.

The $60 million cut has forced the University of Arizona to trim its projects, with graduate students being the hardest hit, as many rely on these grants to support their research and as their primary source of income. University leaders are now urgently seeking alternative funding from private foundations, industry partnerships, and state agencies.
