The United Kingdom has announced the opening of applications for its prestigious 2026 Chevening Scholarship, a fully funded one-year master’s degree program aimed at nurturing global leaders and change-makers.

The application window runs from August 5 to October 7, 2025, offering Nigerians and other eligible candidates a chance to study at top UK universities.

Funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organizations, the Chevening Scholarship, established in 1983, has empowered over 1,500 Nigerians and more than 60,000 professionals worldwide to advance their careers and drive impactful change in their communities. The highly competitive program seeks individuals with exceptional leadership and networking skills.

Emma Hennessey, Head of Scholarships Unit at the UK FCDO, emphasized the program’s rigorous selection process, stating, “Chevening scholars represent the brightest and most driven individuals globally, using their UK education and networks to tackle challenges and create lasting impact.” She encouraged aspiring applicants to build relevant experiences to strengthen their applications.

British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, described Chevening as a “gateway to a global network of leaders and innovators.” He urged Nigerians with ambitions in public policy, business, or global problem-solving to apply before the October 7 deadline, highlighting the scholarship’s role in equipping scholars with world-class knowledge and skills.

Prospective candidates can apply via chevening.org/apply and are advised to review resources at chevening.org/guidance to ensure a competitive application.

With its legacy of fostering transformative leaders, the Chevening Scholarship remains a pivotal opportunity for Nigerians to contribute to their nation and the world.
