UAE Unveils Remote Work System for Federal Employees Abroad to Attract Global Talent

The UAE government has introduced a remote work system for federal employees based abroad, designed to draw international talent into its government projects and specialized tasks.

Announced during a Cabinet meeting on March 11, 2025, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, this initiative eliminates geographical barriers, enabling the UAE to tap into a global pool of expertise.

According to Gulf News, the decision, made at Qasr Al Watan, reflects the UAE’s ambition to enhance its government operations by engaging specialists from around the world.

Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that leveraging international skills is critical to strengthening the nation’s governance framework. This system not only provides opportunities for professionals outside the UAE to contribute to the country’s goals but also positions the UAE as a leader in global governance innovation.

The plan aims to boost annual FDI inflows from Dh112 billion in 2023 to Dh240 billion by 2031, while increasing the total stock of foreign investments from Dh800 billion to Dh2.2 trillion. Sheikh Mohammed highlighted priority sectors industry, logistics, financial services, renewable energy, and IT—as key drivers of this growth.

“The UAE continues to develop its economy, open new markets, and attract investments, with the goal of creating the best business environment globally,” he stated. For visa and immigration journalists, this strategy signals a welcoming climate for foreign investors and professionals, potentially tied to streamlined residency pathways or golden visa expansions.

Digital Economy and Global Trade Take Center Stage

The UAE’s digital economy strategy also gained momentum, with plans to double its GDP contribution from 9.7% to 19.4% by 2031. National projects and reforms will bolster the country’s standing in the global digital market, aligning with the remote work initiative’s tech-forward ethos.

Meanwhile, the UAE’s trade with African nations has surged from Dh126.7 billion in 2019 to Dh235 billion in 2024, reinforcing its role as a global trade hub.

Sheikh Mohammed tweeted, “The UAE will continue to build new economic bridges across all continents,” a vision supported by 28 new international agreements approved during the meeting. Spanning economic and sectoral cooperation, these pacts enhance the UAE’s global connectivity, offering immigration professionals a lens into its expanding influence.
