Veteran musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, was recently spotted shopping at a hair store with Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawaru. This public outing occurred shortly after his family expressed concerns over his whereabouts. A video surfaced on Friday showing 2Baba and Osawaru casually browsing hair products. Earlier, his family had reportedly filed a petition with the Department of State Services, alleging that the singer had gone missing. His mother, Rose Idibia, made a public plea to Osawaru, urging her to distance herself from her son, especially since his divorce from Annie Idibia has not been finalized. Rose expressed that 2Baba is not in the right frame of mind due to the ongoing divorce proceedings.

2Baba’s Relationship with Natasha Osawaru

The recent shopping trip follows a viral video released on Thursday, where 2Baba was seen proposing to Osawaru. The clip showed the singer and the lawmaker dancing together before he presented her with a ring, embracing her in front of their friends. Just a day prior, 2Baba confirmed his relationship with Osawaru, addressing growing speculation in an Instagram video. He stated, “Hon. Natasha has been dragged, she has been called all sorts of names, she has been labelled as a home breaker. She is a young, brilliant, amazing woman, and she had nothing to do with what is happening between me and Annie in our marriage. Yes, I love her. She is amazing, and she is cool. I want to marry her.”

Who is Natasha Osawaru?

Natasha Irobosa Osawaru is a politician and member of the Edo State House of Assembly, representing the Egor Constituency under the Peoples Democratic Party. She was elected in April 2023 and hails from the Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Born on November 14, 1994, Osawaru holds a law degree from Igbinedion University and a Master’s degree in Fashion/Apparel Design from the Parsons School of Design, New York. Currently serving as the Deputy Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, she has been an advocate for youth and women’s development. In 2024, Osawaru made headlines after being asked to leave the Assembly floor over improper dressing and wearing dark sunglasses.

Family’s Plea and Public Reactions

In response to the unfolding events, 2Baba’s mother, Rose Idibia, released a video appealing to Natasha Osawaru to leave her son. She expressed concerns about his well-being, stating, “My son is going through a divorce process, and he is clearly not in his right senses now. Please Natasha, the beads you put on his hand and on his neck, remove them and free him.”

The situation has ignited discussions across social media, with various reactions to 2Baba’s new relationship and the family’s concerns.

The recent engagement between Nigerian music icon Innocent “2Baba” Idibia and Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawaru has ignited a flurry of reactions across social media platforms. Nigerians have taken to various channels to express their views, ranging from criticism and support to calls for focus on pressing national issues.

Many Nigerians have voiced their disapproval of 2Baba’s new relationship, especially considering his ongoing divorce proceedings with Annie Idibia. Critics have taken to Natasha Osawaru’s social media pages to express their concerns. These  include remarks such as:

“Classless honorable… getting married to a man with 7 kids… you think you are special or you can love him more than the way his wife did???”

Conversely, some social media users have shown support for 2Baba’s decision, highlighting Natasha’s accomplishments and suggesting that his choice reflects a preference for a partner with a strong educational and political background. Dr. Penking, a popular influencer, noted:

“I don’t know why you people are surprised that 2baba settled for Natasha, a highly educated woman and political stalwart who is not living off a man’s name but has made one for herself.”

Amid the debates, some voices have urged Nigerians to prioritize national issues over celebrity personal lives. Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong expressed concern that public attention is being diverted from pressing matters, stating:

“Nigerian celebrities are keeping us busy and distracted with their personal issues and controversial lives while the situation in the country is worsening.”

As the situation continues to evolve, the engagement of 2Baba and Natasha Osawaru remains a hot topic, reflecting the diverse opinions of Nigerians on social media.
