According to reports circulating in the US media, President Donald Trump’s National Security Adviser Mike Waltz is set to resign from his post following a leaked war plan.
The leak occurred after Waltz created the Signal group chat, where high-ranking officials planned military strikes in Yemen, to which a journalist, Jeffrey Goldberg, was unfortunately added. This was seen as a huge diplomatic embarrassment for the White House among its European allies.
In late March, Atlantic magazine editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg reported that he was accidentally added to a Signal chat by a user named Mike Waltz. Goldberg says he saw classified military plans for US strikes in Yemen, including weapons packages, targets, and timing, two hours before the bombs struck.
The text group, which also included Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and others, discussed details of plans for strikes on Iran-backed Houthi rebels who have staged numerous attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
Despite widespread reports and reactions by top US officials, an official announcement has not been made to this effect.
