Trump Seeks Court Approval to Fire Fed Reserve Governor Lisa Cook

Donald Trump has called on the US Supreme Court to allow him to remove Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook from the central bank.

The president, in an application filed on Thursday, called for judgments that permitted Cook to remain in her job for the time being to be reversed.

If the Supreme Court agrees to take on the case, it could lead to a landmark decision on how independent the world’s most powerful central bank is from the US executive branch.

Trump attempted to fire Cook from her role last month following allegations from one of his allies that she committed mortgage fraud.

Cook has denied the allegations of mortgage fraud. A request for a loan estimate on the Atlanta condo, seen by the Financial Times, shows that she noted that the property would be used as a vacation home.

She has also pursued legal action against the president.
