President Donald Trump has demanded that Israel immediately cease its airstrikes on Iran, warning that any further aggression would constitute a “major violation” of the ceasefire he brokered just hours earlier.
“DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!,” Trump wrote emphatically on his Truth Social platform Tuesday morning, escalating his call for calm amid rising regional tension.
Trump had only recently declared the truce between Israel and Iran, announcing an end to a brutal 12-day conflict marked by missile exchanges, nuclear site attacks, and mounting civilian casualties.
The ceasefire followed a night of missile retaliation by Tehran, targeting a U.S. military base in Qatar in response to weekend American strikes on Iranian nuclear infrastructure, an attack that was reportedly telegraphed in advance, resulting in no casualties.
Despite the ceasefire, Israel accused Iran of violating the agreement by firing a missile early Tuesday, a claim Iran has flatly denied through its state-run IRIB news agency.
In a tense exchange with reporters before departing for the NATO summit in The Hague, Trump admitted that both parties may have breached the ceasefire but expressed hope the truce would endure.
“I think they both violated it,” Trump said, before adding, “I don’t think so,” when asked whether the ceasefire had collapsed.
His growing frustration was visible. “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing, you understand that,” Trump remarked candidly outside the White House.
The president appeared particularly frustrated with Israel’s swift retaliation, which he characterized as disproportionate to Iran’s alleged provocation. “I’m not happy with Israel for going out there. It was one rocket,” he said. “These guys got to calm down.”
Still, Trump made it clear his criticism was not one-sided. “I’m not happy with Iran either,” he added, signaling equal disapproval of both parties’ actions as tensions simmered beneath the ceasefire.
Trump first announced the truce, warning all sides to respect it: “THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!”
According to Iran’s government, 606 people have been killed in the Islamic Republic since hostilities erupted on June 13. In Israel, emergency services report 28 fatalities due to Iranian missile strikes, including four deaths recorded Tuesday morning.
The ceasefire news triggered immediate market reactions, with oil prices dropping and global equities rising as traders welcomed a potential end to regional instability threatening energy security.
